~ Earth Roots ~
At Earth Roots Camp kids learn the philosophy of living close to the earth, wilderness survival skills, nature studies and develop the skills of inner awareness.  We spend our time outdoors, immersing ourselves and learning from the natural world.  This camp is much more than a survival skills camp.  Our camps are transformative and personal growth oriented, as well as educational, and downright fun.  We balance learning about nature and the ways of the earth with fun, adventurous play.  Our small camp size gives us the ability to be personal with each child.  Our days are spent learning the ancient and honored skills of survival and awareness which includes building natural debris shelters, making fires without matches, and learning techniques of safe wild food gathering.  We learn to move silently in the woods, discovering mysteries that would otherwise go unnoticed and experiencing a more simple way of life.  There will be plenty of time exploring the surrounding mountains and cooling off in streams.  Evenings are spent circled around the campfire telling stories, star gazing, making native crafts, including coal-burned spoons and bowls.  Throughout all of this, campers develop a deeper sense of appreciation for nature, while discovering more about who they are and who they are becoming.  We are sure that the Earth Roots Summer Camp will be an adventure your kids will never forget!

The cozy camp includes large tents on platforms, an outdoor kitchen, showers and bathrooms, and a centralized stone fire circle.  Meals consist of healthy kid-friendly foods, most of it being organic and from local farms.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you, and your excellent staff for creating a camp that truly nurtured and nourished my son.  He said, “ That was the best camp I’ve ever been to,” and his stories continue to go on - it is amazing all that he learned.  He came home more sure of himself, more connected, with a head full of wonderful knowledge and a heart full of good memories.”

~ Living Earth Day Camp ~
Living Earth Day Camps are a one of a kind experience.  We will spend the week exploring the mountains, streams and other wild places.  Campers work together in small groups learning about nature, plants, mammals, tracking, birds, survival, awareness skills, & aidless navigation.  We do this with hands-on activities, games, adventures & fun challenges.  These activities will increase their passion, curiosity & wonder for the earth we live on.
The cost is $195 per camper.  Camps are located at the Sugar Hollow Girl Scout Camp, just 20 minutes from Charlottesville, from 9am to 4pm.  There is an optional (though recommended) overnight on Thursday and camp ends Friday at noon.

“Thank you for making my girls' outdoor experience such a wonderful one, in addition to one they will always remember.  They had lots of praise for your counselors.  Your camp was more than I hoped for.  Thank you again for taking such good care of my girls.”

~ Ancient Ways ~
A camp for returning "experienced" campers who have attended the Earth Roots camp or equivalent. Here campers will further their knowledge and become their own tribe in a sense, living close to the earth and interweaving primitive living skills into daily camp life. We will spend much of our time living like the ancient ones did, and learning to move about the land as a scout.   Program may include: Further hone fire making skills plus advanced techniques, hide-work and leatherwork, advanced cordage, flint knapping (arrowheads), whittling, basketry, awareness exercises, wild foods, tracking, team building and communication... and of course swimming and games. (Program will be designed upon the interest of the group) The cost is $385 per session per child.
